Turkmenbashi (formerly called Krasnovodsk), 654 km from the capital of Turkmenistan with population of about 70,000. It is situated on the Caspian Sea and has some magnificent sandy beaches. More than one hundred twenty years ago, Colonel N. G. Stoletov founded a town which he named Krasnovodsk. It became the administrative center of the Caspian region, which it retained until 1917.

In recent times, it has become a major transport center, with developed oil refining and construction industries. Nearby facilities for mining structural stone and various minerals (mainly salt) have turned this town into a major transit center for raw materials. In addition, visitors can spend an unforgettable time on the Caspian shores.
